Yesterday was a lovely Sunday! Some notable things

I went out looking for a cup of coffee and a place to finish Calaban's War. Sadly, all the coffee shops were busy busy busy. I saw some posters in the Fairmount neighborhood - a coffee popup with Indian inspired flavors! It was close by (actually a block from Tanner's apartment) so I walked on over. The couple running it were very, very caffeinated, but passionate about their hobby. The guy creates all the drinks, imports coffee grounds from India, and the equipment they have are top-notch. I ordered the Coconut Concoction, but I was torn between that and a Coke-inspired drink (Thunder Something or Other). Pat (or Pete), another patron on line, had ordered one of each and said that the Thunder Something or Other was delicious. They run the stand every month, weather pending, so I'll have to stop by next month to try the second drink!

I did end up finishing Calaban's War in Rittenhouse Square! As mentioned before, it was a lovely day, so in the afternoon I walked on over to Rittenhouse and searched for a bench to sit at. I saw the most enormous dog ever - bench height! The older couple sitting across from me say quietly and read with their little white dog playfully watching all the dogs passing by.

As I was walking around searching for a place to read my book, I realized that my Philadelphia Museum of Art membership comes with coffee in the members' lounge! I popped in there just minutes after they opened, renewed my membership (for free as a part of a student promotion!), checked my bag (I was #1!), and took a seat in the lounge. Stupidly, I forgot that my book was in my bag, but luckily Marisa was watching the bike race in Manayunk and could occupy my time. There was a gentleman who wished me a happy Sunday and when I begrudgingly said it means Monday for me, he started a conversation with me.

The actual Art Museum was very, very quiet so I took the opportunity to really take in some pieces. I went through A Nation of Artists and I was really drawn to watercolors by Homer, and giant oil paintings by Homer and Bierstadt. One thing I realized was how much I appreciated these enormous landscape pieces with one or a few small human figures showing the scale of nature's features. It reminds us of how small and, truly, meaningless humans are in the grand scheme of things. It also relates to my love of East Asian landscape pieces with that same concept. Meditative. Beautiful. Enormous.

The Philly Bike Race was today - not really something that I cared for, but was a lot of fun to see the activity, buzz, and excitement from the people attending as spectators or racers. Marisa, Kristy, and Briana took it all in on Main Street, while I walked around Logan Square. The Logan Square area is where the racers prepped their start, and a lot of families were there to observe the teams, grab a bite to eat, and just hang out.

10/10, a wonderful day for me! I really enjoyed the nice weather, reading at the park, and having an empty museum to walk around in!
